According to the fasting story of Parma Ekadashi, in ancient times a Brahmin named Sumedha lived with his wife in Kampilya Nagar. The name of the Brahmin’s wife was Pavitra. She was of ultimate sati and sadhvi nature.
Both this husband and wife used to live in poverty and poverty, but these people were very religious and were always ready to serve the guests. One day, being troubled by his poverty, the Brahmin thought of going abroad, but his wife explained to him that wealth and children are obtained only by the charity of the previous birth, so stop worrying about it.
One day Maharishi Kaudinya came to this Brahmin’s house. The Brahmin couple served him whole heartedly. Seeing his condition, Maharishi asked him to fast on Parma Ekadashi. To remove poverty, he advised both of them together to fast and stay awake on the Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha in more months. He told that by fasting on this Ekadashi, Yaksharaj Kuber has become wealthy and Harishchandra has become king.
Saying this, Muni left from there. After this Sumedha observed this fast with his wife. According to the legend, the next day after the fasting, a prince came on a horse in the morning and gave Sumedha a nice house to live in and filled her with all the comforts. After observing this fast, all their sorrows and pains went away.
