Because after this, the Roman Emperor Theodosius I ordered a ban on all cult practices including the Greek Olympic Games. It is also said that Theodosius I had also banned the Olympic Games to promote Christianity.
One of the reasons for banning the Greek Olympics is that in the fourth century AD, the Olympics were organized like a festival. People of all religions participated in it and idol worship was also done. Emperor Theodosius I at that time banned all such festivals and events, including the Olympics, in which idol worship was done. In this way the Olympic Games were stopped and the Olympics were not organized for about 1500 years.
However, these games were organized again later in the 19th century. These games could be started again due to the initiative of Baron Pierre de Coubertin of France. Coubertin organized the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 in Athens, the capital of Greece.
