Lovlina Borgohain Success Story: Born in a poor family, the whole house somehow managed to survive in a small room. So she decided to do something at a young age and set out to fulfill her mother’s dream. Lovlina Borgohain’s story is one that is full of courage, determination and inspiration to overcome difficulties. Lovlina Borgohain was born in Assam in the year 1997. Her father was a small businessman, when she was young the whole family lived in a small room. There were three daughters in the house, about whose future life the parents were worried. Her father was able to earn only 1300 rupees a month. At the age of just 15, Lovlina Borgohain came to Guwahati from Golaghat. So that she could fulfill her mother’s dream and silence those who considered girls ‘inferior’.

The journey started with a newspaper

Lovlina met boxing somewhat by chance. Reports suggest that once Lovlina’s father brought sweets, when Lovlina later saw the newspaper in which her father had brought the sweets, it had a mention of the famous boxer Mohammed Ali. After this, she thought of reading about Mohammed Ali. After which Lovlina developed a desire to become a boxer.

I put my life and soul into it

Kick-boxing enthusiast Lovlina had her trials for the Sports Authority of India in primary school where coach Padum Boro saw potential in Lovlina and encouraged her to pursue the sport. Lovlina soon took to boxing. She worked hard and began winning local and regional tournaments, often in difficult conditions.

Qualify for the Olympics

Then came a golden year, in 2012, Lovlina won the gold medal in the National Junior Boxing Championship. This victory gave her recognition at the national level and she got a place in the Indian national team. From there she did not stop and won gold medals in the Senior National Boxing Championship in 2017 and 2018. She also won a bronze medal in the Asian Boxing Championship in 2019. Lovlina’s dream was to participate in the Olympics, which was also fulfilled in the year 2020. She qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the welterweight category.

The Tokyo Olympics was like a dream for Lovlina. She made it to the semi-finals, where she lost to a Turkish boxer. However, she defeated a Ukrainian boxer to win a bronze medal, making her the first female boxer from Assam to win an Olympic medal. Now she is representing India at the Paris Olympics.
