Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said in the Lok Sabha, “After independence, the central government never conducted caste-wise census. Only Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes have been counted in the census.” He said in a written reply that many organizations including Bihar, Maharashtra and Odisha have requested the government to conduct caste-wise census in the census.
