Udhav Krishna/Patna: The market of the capital Patna is buzzing with Tilakut and things made from sesame seeds. When passing by Tilakut shops, the sweet smell of sesame seeds is attracting people towards the shops. People are not able to ignore the fragrance of Tilkut even if they want to.

Shopkeepers say that Tilkut made from sesame seeds is in great demand throughout the winter i.e. from November to February. Patna residents like to eat Tilkut in winter and gift it.

This is how Tilakut is made
Rajat, a shopkeeper of a wholesale Tilkut shop located in West Darwaza of Patna, says that the process of making Tilkut from sesame seeds is long. He further explains that to make good Tilkut, less sugar is used and more sesame is used. Tilkut is prepared by preparing sugar syrup and crushing sesame seeds. Which takes a lot of time. At the same time, there are three types of varieties in Tilkut. Which contains sugar, jaggery and khoya tilkut. Shopkeepers say that people also use it to give as gifts. Its season is of three to four months.

Know what is the going rate?
Shopkeepers say that the price of Tilkut with sugar starts from Rs 320. Whereas the price of Tilkut with jaggery is currently running at Rs 350 per kg. However, depending on the preparation of Tilkut, its rate ranges from Rs 300 to Rs 500 per kg. Let us tell you that apart from sugar and jaggery, people are also particularly fond of khoya and tilkut. At the same time, other ingredients made from sesame seeds and items eaten in winter like almond patti, sesame chatti, black sesame tilkut, petha and anarsa are also being liked by the people.
