This is the process
There are many steps involved in this promotion process. First of all, a PCS officer has to perform well during his service. After this, a screening committee is constituted through the state government which selects the eligible officers. Its selection is fair and transparent, taking into account the officer’s service record, efficiency and other parameters.
Promotion rules
A PCS officer has to complete at least 8-10 years of service. Along with this, the age of the officer should be at least 54 years at the time of promotion. The number of posts available for promotion is also important. Every year, promotion is done on the basis of the number of these posts. Along with this, the service record of the officer should be good, in which no serious action has been taken.
During the promotion process, the state government in collaboration with the central government prepares the list of eligible officers. This list is sent to the Union Home Ministry, which takes the final decision. The selected officers are then inducted into the IPS cadre and are assigned new responsibilities.
