The people of a village are troubled for two years. They are repeatedly receiving threatening and scary letters. The crime-free beautiful village of East Yorkshire in the UK is shaken by such disturbing poisonous pen letters. In Shiptonthorpe, a village of 500 people, ‘disgusting’ notes written by an unknown person are coming to the letterboxes of the residents, and despite complaints to the police, this is continuing. The situation has become such that now many people have started leaving the village out of frustration.
Humberside Police have launched an investigation into the bizarre mystery after several parish councillors, as well as other local residents, were terrorised. One letter said it hoped the recipient would get cancer, while another threatened the reader with being ‘thrown under the bus’.
Sophie, which is not her real name, said she first received the letter in December 2022 and reported it to the police. She was trying to become a ward councillor at the time and was “shocked” when she opened it. “It was accusing me of being a woman of loose character,” she told the BBC.

Humberside Police told the BBC it had been informed of the letters. Police said they had given Sophie safety advice and were told she had been sent three more letters. Sophie’s partner Sam opened the letters which claimed to be from a friend, urging her to be “honest” with herself.
One letter, seen by the BBC, warned Sam about Sophie’s private life and told him to stop “snooping around”. The letter was signed, “From a caring dear friend”. According to the Mail Online, more than 25 letters have been sent to at least 10 people. Meanwhile, locals have claimed the letters have had a profound impact on the village and some people have moved because of the letters.
