Let us tell you that in the year 2015, this Pharmacy Practice Regulation Act was enacted, whose objective was to improve and regulate the Pharmacist Practice Sector. It was created by the Pharmacy Council of India. If you understand in simple language, there are rules regarding the pharmacists in the medicine shops, in which the responsibilities of the pharmacist have been fixed. It was also updated in 2021.

In this, the rules of pharmacist practice, rules for becoming a pharmacist, responsibilities of a pharmacist, etc. have been explained. In this law, the pharmacist has been given the freedom to charge fees for giving suggestions to the patients. But, many people believe that this means that now even pharmacists will be able to prescribe medicines and open their clinics.

Will the pharmacist be able to prescribe medicine?

When this law came, people were assuming that now pharmacists will also be able to open clinics like doctors and along with that they will also be able to write prescriptions. but it’s not like that. A clarification has also come from the government regarding this, in which it has been told that there is any provision regarding opening of clinic in the Pharmacy Practice Regulation Rule.

Then what will the pharmacist be able to do?

Actually, under this act, any pharmacist can now give the name of the medicine and then the information. Along with this, suggestions can be given regarding the quantity of medicine, the way to take medicine, the way to store it, what to do if you are not able to take medicine, etc. However, this does not mean that he should suggest medicine like a doctor.
