He said that the 15 km long Agartala-Akhaura railway project, connecting the Northeast with Bangladesh, would be completed next year. Modi claimed that the indigenous people were sidelined for a long time in development. “They (opposition parties) are masters of spreading negativity, pulling reverse gear when the state needed an escalator,” he said.

Earlier, he inaugurated several development projects worth over Rs 4,300 crore in the poll-bound state. Modi launched the “Griha Pravesh” program for over two lakh beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (urban and rural).

He initiated the widening works of Agartala Bypass from Khairpur to Amtali, which will reduce traffic congestion in the city. He also inaugurated the State Institute of Hotel Management and Agartala Government Dental College and IGM Hospital (Agartala). He also laid the foundation stone of 32 road projects of total length of 323 km and 112 road projects of total length of 542 km under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PM-GSY) ​​III.

Modi said that in the last five years the cleanliness campaign has become a mass movement and as a result Tripura has emerged as the cleanest among the small states of the country.

Earlier, while addressing a public meeting in Shillong, Modi said that the National Democratic Alliance ie NDA government has shown ‘red card’ to many obstacles in the way of development of the Northeast. In his 26-minute speech, the Prime Minister said, “Obstacles like corruption, discrimination, violence and vote-bank politics were removed.”

“Earlier attempts were made to divide the Northeast, but now we are stopping such attempts,” Modi said, as he inaugurated and laid foundations for several projects. The projects that were inaugurated include the Indian Institute of Management (IIM)-Shillong at ‘New Shillong Township’.
