More than 70 people lost their lives due to spurious liquor in Bihar. Last year alone 18 people had died in Agra district. The contract operator, salesman and others were sent to jail by the police. Now again the police has issued an alert. The Commissioner of Police has warned all the station in-charges and instructed to take strict action against those selling illegal and spurious liquor.
In August 2021, there were deaths due to spurious liquor on the festival of Raksha Bandhan. Four people died in Nagla Deori under Tajganj police station area, three in Kaulara Kalan village under Dauki police station area, one in Karkula, 10 in Shamsabad and Iradatnagar. Earlier the police was assuming a normal death. When ADG Zone Rajeev Krishna got the viscera examined in the Forensic Science Laboratory, the death was confirmed due to spurious liquor.
Sent more than 10 people to jail
The police had registered more than eight cases and sent more than 10 people to jail. Poisonous liquor was also sold through contracts. The police had taken swift action. Earlier, in Khandauli and Etmadpur too, people had died due to spurious liquor. After the latest incident in Bihar, Police Commissioner Dr. Pritinder Singh has given instructions for strict action against village-to-village checking, making and selling illegal and spurious liquor.
Action was taken in gangster
The police had taken action under the Gangster Act against Hemant Thakur and his wife Manorama Devi, accused of selling spurious liquor. On December 10, property worth Rs 91 lakh of both was seized.
There was supply in the village
In the investigation of poisonous liquor, the police had come to know that liquor was being sold and prepared from contract to the village. The quantity of drugs was also being increased by bringing them from Haryana. People were buying because of getting a bottle of liquor at a low price.
