In the case of the death of an old man due to the collapse of the dome-shaped roof of the Baradari (permanent stone structure made for sitting) at Balua Ghat in Varanasi, a case has been registered in Ramnagar police station against the contractor Om Prakash Pandey who carried out the construction work. Action has been taken against Om Prakash on the charge of death due to negligence on the basis of the complaint of the project manager of the implementing agency Uttar Pradesh Project Corporation Limited (UPPCL), Praveen Kumar Sharma. However, the responsible persons of the implementing agency have been saved in the case. The names of those under whose supervision the work was done are not mentioned in the complaint.

On the other hand, it has been recommended to get the case investigated by the Technical Audit Committee (TAC). Also, UPPCL has suspended Assistant Project Manager Dilip Kumar and Junior Engineer Renu Jaiswal and attached them to Prayagraj. All the work and payments of the firm have been stopped.
Beautification work is going on at Balua Ghat situated on the banks of Ganga near Ramnagar Fort. On Thursday, an elderly Mewalal alias Babaji (60) of Parorwa village of Chandauli was sitting in the Baradari on Balua Ghat and eating Laai-Chana. During this time, its dome-like roof suddenly collapsed. Mewalal died on the spot after being buried under it.
