Political ‘drama’ seen again in the Waqf Bill meeting! Opposition leaders walked out


WAQF Bill 2024: Opposition leaders walked out from the meeting of the Joint Committee of Parliament on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024. Opposition leaders alleged that a BJP member had made derogatory remarks against them.

The Joint Committee of Parliament is seeking suggestions from people across the country regarding the Waqf Bill. The opposition leaders also boycotted the meeting held on Monday to discuss the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024.

The opposition made these allegations

According to news agency PTI, several opposition MPs, including Sanjay Singh, Kalyan Banerjee, Gaurav Gogoi, A Raja, Mohammad Abdullah and Arvind Sawant, walked out of the joint committee meeting on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill on Tuesday. He alleged that a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party had made derogatory remarks against him. After this, the opposition leaders walked out of the parliamentary committee meeting creating ruckus.

Opposition members came back after an hour

After being absent for about an hour, the opposition members returned to the meeting. However, BJP members alleged that the opposition members were abusing committee chairperson Jagdambika Pal. This is the second consecutive day when opposition members walked out of the meeting due to differences.

In this meeting, Mahmood Madani of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind also appeared before the committee. During this, he said that his organization opposes the proposed amendments in the Waqf Bill.

Boycotted the meeting on 14th October also

Earlier, the opposition MPs had boycotted the meeting of the Joint Committee of Parliament on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 held on Monday (October 14). The opposition had alleged that the committee was not working as per the rules. He will now raise this issue before the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. The committee has sought suggestions from people across the country regarding the Waqf Bill.
