Local experts say that in this pond the fishermen used to do fish farming, makhana cultivation and water fruit (water chestnut) cultivation. For this, the Fisheries Department used to auction the pond. He also says that land mafia had caught sight of this pond about two years ago. Earlier, a land mafia had tried to fill the pond two years ago also.

He said that the land mafia, which is currently filling the pond, was creating hurdles and took the matter to the court. Even two years ago, during the filling of the pond, this matter had reached the University Police Station. The police had also come, but seeing the matter in abeyance, the land mafia once again started the work of filling the pond in the dark of night. But this time the residents of the locality were very alert. This time, as soon as the police station showed laxity in the matter, all of them went to the higher authorities. Taking immediate action, higher officials handed over the responsibility of investigation to Sadar DSP Amit Kumar. They also took action and inspected the pond and have also started searching for the land mafia.

DM Rajiv Roshan said in the case of the pond that disappeared overnight that the officials related to the pond have been ordered to investigate. The case related to this pond is still going on in the court of Additional Deputy Collector. Regarding the cancellation of the registration of this land, the decision was taken in favor of the complainant.

The DM said that the Sadar Circle Officer has been directed to immediately file an appeal on this matter in his court and to immediately ban any kind of activity at the site. He said that in terms of pond safety, all the ponds in the city are a part of greenery. All the ponds in the city have to be made encroachment free. Someone also has a private pond, there is a court decision on its ownership. Still no one can change the form of the pond.
