And now the news is coming that the benefit given under the Ayushman Bharat scheme run by the government can be increased from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. Insurance cover can be done from 5 lakh to 10 lakh
Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Yojana was launched by the Government of India in the year 2018. It is also known as Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. Under this scheme, Ayushman card holders are given free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh by the government. Ayushman card holders can avail this health insurance in any private and government listed hospital by the government.
12 crore people of the country are getting the benefit of the government’s scheme. Now news is coming that the government is considering increasing the insurance cover given in the scheme from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. This can also be announced in the upcoming budget.
The budget will be presented on July 23
India’s budget for the year 2024 is to be presented on 23 July this month. According to news agency PTI, big decisions can be taken in this budget. So one of the big announcements is also likely to be that the insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh available under the Ayushman Bharat scheme can be doubled. That is, the amount of insurance cover can be increased to Rs 10 lakh. However, at present it will be called an estimate only. Until this is mentioned and confirmed in the budget.
This much burden will increase on the government treasury
If the Government of India doubles the benefits of Ayushman Yojana in the upcoming budget, then as per a figure given by the National Health Authority, an additional burden of Rs 12,076 crore annually will be imposed on the government treasury.
