The central government has approved the expenditure of Rs 6,231 crore on the sixth and last Rithala-Narela-Kundli metro corridor of Delhi Metro Phase-4. After the construction of this corridor, passengers from Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh will benefit. At the same time, movement in Narela sub-city will also become easier. DDA will spend about one thousand crore rupees on the 26 km long corridor. Officials say that soon its proposal will go to the Union Cabinet. After getting approval in this, other formalities will be completed. The project will be completed within 24 months of its start.

Earlier, the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs-DDA had prepared a proposal for the Rithala-Narela-Kundli Metro Corridor. It was sent to the Public Investment Board. Recently, the board has approved it. Officials say that Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena considered this project important for the development of outer Delhi including sub-city Narela. His effort was to get this project, pending for about 20 years, finalised.

How much will the project cost

The total cost of construction of this project will be Rs 6,231 crore. In this, the total cost for construction in Delhi will be Rs 5685.22 crore and on Haryana side the cost will be Rs 547.77 crore. The central government will bear 40 per cent cost of construction in Delhi. In this the DDA will bear an amount of Rs 1,000 crore. Apart from this, 37.5 per cent cost will be borne through bilateral-multilateral loans, while 20 per cent will be borne by the Delhi government. For the construction to be done in Haryana, the state government will give 80 per cent subsidy. Only 20 per cent of the amount will be spent as grant by the central government.

I have been waiting for this line for 20 years

The project of running metro in this area is pending for about 20 years. The plan to build it was initially in phase-1. But due to change in priorities, work could not be done in this direction. Later, a plan to bring metro in this area was prepared in phase-4. But due to various reasons, work could not be done in this too. The project has now received financial approval from the board.
