NITI Aayog Governing Council Meeting: The NITI Aayog Governance Council meeting is being held on Saturday (27 July 2024) under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi. The opposition India Alliance has boycotted this meeting, while Chief Minister N Rangasamy, who is leading the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in Puducherry, has also not attended this meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the central government’s planning to make India a developed nation by 2047.

Why did CM Rangasamy not attend the meeting

Chief Ministers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies are participating in this meeting. N Rangasamy’s All India NR Congress Party has been running a coalition government with the BJP in Puducherry since the 2021 assembly elections.

According to The Hindu report, a leader of his party said, “CM Rangasamy is not attending this meeting due to preparations for the budget session in the Puducherry Assembly. The assembly session is going to start here from 31 July 2024 and the annual budget is to be presented on 2 August.” He told that N Rangasamy is the finance minister there, so the responsibility of presenting the budget is on him. He said that the decision of not attending the NITI Aayog meeting is not political.

According to the report, a BJP leader said that there are no differences among his alliance partners. He said that maybe Chief Minister N Rangasamy did not attend the meeting because our candidate from Puducherry, who was his choice, had lost.
