Rabi crops were sown in 720 hectares

On February 3, 2023, the final figures of Rabi season crops have been released by the Central Government. As per the data, Rabi season sowing is still being done in some parts of the country. The total area sown under rabi crops has increased by 3.25 percent from 697.98 lakh hectare in 2021-22 to 720.68 lakh hectare in 2022-23. This is 22.71 lakh hectares more than the sowing of seeds in the same period of 2021-22 this year. A growth of up to 13.71 percent has been recorded in Rabi season crops.

This much increase in paddy sowing

The area under paddy has increased by 11.20 lakh hectares from 35.05 lakh hectares in 2021-22 to 46.25 lakh hectares in 2022-23. However, this is slightly lower than the average sowing area of ​​47.71 lakh hectares in previous years. The maximum increase in area under rice has been observed in states like Telangana and West Bengal. At the same time, the area under wheat sowing has increased to more than 300 lakh hectares.

The area under oilseeds also increased in the country

To reduce import dependence in edible oils, the central government is promoting oilseed production. Due to low production, the country had to import 142 lakh tonnes of edible oils in 2021-22 at a cost of Rs 1.41 lakh crore. Sowing of oilseeds in the country has increased by 7.31 percent from 102.36 lakh hectare during 2021-22 to 109.84 lakh hectare this year. Maximum area under oilseeds has increased in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. On the other hand, the area under mustard in oilseeds has increased from 91.25 lakh hectare in the year 2021-22 to 98.02 lakh hectare in 2022-23 by 6.77 lakh hectare.

The area under pulses also increased

The central government has started work on increasing pulses production in 370 districts of the country. The area under pulses in the country has increased from 167.31 lakh hectare to 167.86 lakh hectare with an increase of 0.56 lakh hectare. Moong and Masoor have increased in the area of ​​pulses. There has been an increase in pulse sowing in Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan and Karnataka.

Coarse grains increased by 2 lakh hectares

The central government is emphasizing on coarse grains and its production. An increase of 2.08 lakh hectares has been registered in the area of ​​coarse cereals in the country. It has increased from 51.42 lakh hectare in the year 2021-22 to 53.49 lakh hectare in 2022-23. Central government officials say that India is poised to become a global hub for the production of coarse grains.
