Kadambari Devi: The relationship between Kadambari Devi and Tagore was that of brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Kadambari Devi was the wife of Tagore’s elder brother Jyotindranath, who was married as a child. Tagore’s mother died when he was only 7 years old. After this, at the age of 7, Tagore became friends with Kadambari Devi. Kadambari Devi was 12 years old at that time. The relationship between these two was seen with suspicion. After this Tagore’s father Devendra Babu decided to get him married. At the age of 22, Tagore got married to 10-year-old Mrinalini Devi. Shortly after Tagore’s marriage, Kadambari Devi committed suicide by drinking poison. After Kadambari’s death, Tagore also wrote a book called Bhanga Hriday (Broken Heart).

Dr. Atmaram Pandurang had an 18 year old daughter, whose name was Annapurna Turkhud. She was impressed by Rabindranath and fell in love with him. However, the relationship of both could not progress further. It is mentioned in Dutta and Robinson’s book ‘Married Minded Man’ written by Tagore.
