This was the first time that a Congress leader made a political journey from Godaulia to Manduwadih via Rath Yatra. On Saturday, Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra started from Golgada at 9:30 am. Along with the Muslim community, workers carrying Congress and Jai Bhim flags were raising slogans of Rahul Gandhi Zindabad.
On the way, a stage was made for welcome at two places at Pilikothi. From where people of Muslim community showered flowers on Rahul Gandhi’s convoy. As soon as he moved ahead from Visheshwarganj intersection, as at the intersection of Kalbhairav Temple, Rahul Gandhi folded hands from outside and saluted the Kotwal of Kashi.
When we found the statue of his father, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, at Maidagin intersection, we bowed to him while sitting in the jeep. Rahul had lunch sitting in the safety bus at Kurona Saraswati PG College. After this stayed here for three hours. During this, he interacted with weavers, students and representatives of social organizations.
The weavers’ organizations led by Haji Hameed of the Sardar Chaudahon weavers’ fraternity raised the issue of flat electricity rates and rising prices of silk with Rahul. Rahul Gandhi, who reached Varanasi as part of Bharat Jodo Yatra, was presented a wooden model of Maharaja Kashi King sitting on an elephant.
