Priyanka’s family has demanded action against the hospital and doctors where Priyanka was operated upon. It is alleged that Priyanka’s health deteriorated and she died due to excessive anesthesia during the surgery. If seen, anesthesia plays an important role in any kind of surgery. Let’s know about this.
Why is anesthesia given?
A dose of anesthesia is given to get relief from pain during surgery. Anesthesia is actually a mixture of medicines which when enters the body prevents the nervous system from sending any signal to the brain. To ensure that the patient does not feel pain during the surgical cut and does not move, a dose of anesthesia is given through injection. This prevents the patient from realizing the surgery and he remains unconscious.

How is the dose of anesthesia decided during surgery
Whenever a patient undergoes surgery, an anesthesia specialist is present in the operation room along with the doctors. This specialist decides the dose of anesthesia based on the patient’s age, medical condition, surgery, and the major nature of the surgery. If these conditions are ignored and a low dose is given during the operation, the patient may regain consciousness during the operation and suffer more pain.
Although this condition is not life-threatening. But if the patient is given more anesthesia than required during the operation, then his life can be lost. Excessive dose of anesthesia can reduce the patient’s blood pressure and pulse rate. Not only this, the patient can even suffer a stroke and heart attack. Many times, due to excessive dose, the patient also gets into a situation of paralysis and brain death.
