Importance of Raksha Bandhan (Raksha Bandhan Significance)
According to the Hindu calendar, Raksha Bandhan is celebrated every year on the full moon day of the month of Savan. This festival of the sacred relationship between brother and sister is celebrated with enthusiasm throughout India and sisters tie a Raksha Sutra on their brother’s wrist and wish for their brother’s long life, while the brother also takes a pledge to protect his sister.
According to religious scriptures, Raksha Bandhan should not be celebrated during Bhadra period. There is a religious belief that tying a Rakhi during Bhadra period is not auspicious. According to mythology, Ravana, the king of Lanka, was tied a Rakhi by his sister during Bhadra period and that year Ravana was killed by Lord Rama. For this reason, Rakhi is never tied during Bhadra period.

Rakhi should not be tied during Bhadra
Bhadra is the sister of Shani Dev and has a cruel nature. In astrology, Bhadra is called a special period. All astrologers advise not to start any auspicious work during Bhadra period. Auspicious work like marriage, tonsure, housewarming, tying Raksha Sutra on Raksha Bandhan etc. In simple words, Bhadra period is considered inauspicious.
It is believed that the nature of Bhadra, the daughter of Sun God and Chhaya, is very scary. Due to this, Sun God was very worried about Bhadra’s marriage. Bhadra used to create obstacles in auspicious deeds and did not allow yagyas to be performed. Worried by such nature of Bhadra, Sun God had sought guidance from Brahma Ji.
At that time Brahma Ji had told Bhadra that if a person does any auspicious work during your period, then you can create obstacles in that, but those who do auspicious work leaving your period, respect you. You will not create obstacles in their work. Because of this story, auspicious work is considered forbidden during Bhadra period. Worship, chanting, meditation etc. can be done during Bhadra period.
