Ram Asur Review: Ram Asur, a good story, would have been great if it had got a good scale

The Telugu film Ram Asura was released on Amazon Prime Video on the day of Sankranti. The story of the film is of a new type but the scale of the film is very small and hence the film might not get proper success. Although it is a Telugu film, it is not a melodrama, yet there are some scenes where if there was a better production design, then perhaps this film would have been much talked about. Writer director Triparna Venkatesh had written the story well but he should have written this story by sitting with a script doctor or a colleague and experienced writer so that the weaknesses can be eliminated and a good film can be made. When the film was released in the theatre, it was appreciated.

In the story of Ram Asur, Ram (Ram Karthik) is sad because of his breakup with his girlfriend Priya (Sharry Aggarwal). He has a dream that he can make an artificial diamond in the lab. Due to heartbreak, that dream remains somewhere. His friend takes him to a nadi shastra knower who asks him to find a person named Suri. In search of Suri, he reaches Suri’s village and meets Suri’s best friend who tells him the story of Suri. The story of Ram and Suri is similar. Suri’s friend gives Ram Suri’s diary, in which Suri’s method of making an artificial diamond is written. Ram comes back and makes diamond in his lab and then some goons come to his house and demand diamond from him. Ram washes them and while following them, he reaches a place where he encounters Suri. What is the story after this should be seen in the film.

Ram Karthik will have to learn acting. In almost one frame, he is seen roaming around with the same face. His love and anger look alike. There is no sense of surprise on his face. Even in the fight scenes, he is not seen doing anything special. The role of Suri is played by producer Abhinav Sardar. His personality is good. Height and saddle is also fine. His acting is also average but better than Ram. He himself is a producer, so he has tried his best to make himself a hero and his role has been kept big without any reason. Rest of the actors are ordinary. Sherry Aggarwal and Chandni have successfully tried to bring glamour. However, his acting is also bad.

There are not many twists in the story of Ram Asur. There is no mention of any kind of research in the method of making diamonds. Artificial Diamonds are a huge and successful business, never mind why anyone would be so foolish to make them at home. There is no strong reason why Ram and Suri have the craze to make artificial diamonds. Both the heroines break up easily and fall in love with the antagonist of the hero. Why someone would spoil his life on such a shallow relationship is beyond understanding. There are many inconsistencies and weaknesses which should have been rectified at the script level. Apart from this, the production design is such that even the lab at Ram’s house is devoid of equipment and nothing can be seen in Suri’s lab about 30 years ago. Ram and Suri’s life is shown to be similar but in the end the revelation between Ram’s friend and Suri’s friend seems very weak. The scope of the villain was created and he was left somewhere in the middle of the story. The formula for making Diamond is the backbone of the story but the conflict in the story is due to the girl who has no connection with Diamond. Due to such mistakes, the story of the film seems to be weak.

There is nothing to praise in Prabhakar Reddy’s cinematography and Basava Pydireddy’s editing. The work of editing is correct when the writing and progression of the story is done properly. The music is by Bhims Cecirolo, which is a bit innovative and also sounds good in the action sequences. The scope of the songs has been created. In fact, in a good story there is no need to create a place for songs, they come automatically. Songs are inserted in a weak story. Although songs have not been inserted in Ram Asur, but the story has not been of any special benefit. As far as watching the film is concerned, there is no strong reason to watch it, but those who study the film can understand the damage caused by the scale of the story by watching it. For example, the scale of Karan Johar’s film Kalank was huge and the story was weak, so the film flopped. The scale of Ram Asura is small so the viewers will be disappointed.
