The Ramganga Barrage project, which started 14 years ago in Bareilly, has become a spectacle worth Rs 630 crore. This project, which was supposed to be completed at Rs 332 crore, is incomplete even after spending Rs 630 crore. Its budget increased year after year, but the work did not progress.

Three years ago, Rs 2,100 crore was required to complete this project. Now this budget has increased to Rs 3,289 crore. The government did not give even a single rupee for this project in the name of budget in five years. Now this project stands as a showpiece.

Under this project, which started in the year 2011, barrages and 469 kilometers of canals were to be built on the Ramganga river. This would have quenched the thirst of the fields in Dataganj area of Badaun also. Work on this project was carried out from 2014 to 2018-19. During this period, 80 percent of the work of the barrage was completed, but where it ends, dam and other work is yet to be done.

100 km of canals have been built, but more than 350 km of canals are still to be constructed. Land has to be acquired for this. The budget of the project also increased with time. Due to lack of budget, work has come to a standstill since 2019. Now in the year 2024, once again a revised budget of Rs 3,289.89 crore has been sent. The flood department has been continuously demanding the budget since 2019, but the government has not given anything.
