‘The Great Indian Murder’ Review: The number of common people who know the nature of development working on the post of Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs is less. As soon as it is said that Slumdog Millionaire was made by Danny Boyle on his book ‘Q and A’, which got Oscar, many people get to know their lives. Then if you remember Slumdog starring Irrfan, Dev Patel and Freida Pinto, more people join, and as soon as you remember that there is an Oscar-winning film with the song “Jai Ho” and that too won an Oscar, The number of experts reaches in crores. The success of the film was such that every Indian in America calls himself a resident of the country of Slumdog Millionaire.

In Vikas Swaroop ji, after the success of his first novel, he wrote his second novel in 2008 – Six Suspects. In this, the story was about the politics of Uttar Pradesh, the spice of the Jessica Lal murder case was also added to some extent. Six Suspects was not as much fun to read as it was to read “Q&A”, because Vikas’s writing was on the rise and he had distanced himself from the commercial writing formula. Now the way the book was a bit boring, the web series “The Great Indian Murder”, which was released on Disney+ Hotstar on February 4, has become very boring.

Tigmanshu Dhulia is a very talented director, he has a grasp on the ground reality of Uttar Pradesh politics. Perhaps he had read the novel, thinking it is from Uttar Pradesh, he said yes, but the novel was settled in Chhattisgarh. The film adaptation of Vikas Swaroop’s novel was done by the very talented Vijay Maurya and Puneet Sharma with director Tigmanshu. The book which could have been turned into a film due to the pen not stopping while writing, became a web series of seven and a half hours. Everything is done at a slow pace. An attempt has been made to explain each and every character. In murder mystery, those who are likely to be accused of murder are always seen in the first episode itself, but nothing like this happens here, that means bear with it for a while.

Till many episodes, the intelligence of the police was not shown to investigate the people coming to the party, to investigate the video shooting or photography that was happening there. In the investigation, first the dead body, then the location and then complete information about the people who were there is obtained. There is no mention of the post mortem, there is no mention of the make of the gun, there is no mention of the distance from which the bullet was fired. There is no mention of who was standing at the place from where the shot was fired. Since when did the murder investigation become so poor?

The suspense that continues till the fourth episode ends soon. In the first two-three episodes, there is no trace of the murderer. One scene was so important and so cheaply shot, that of Prateek Gandhi reaching the party’s garbage and recovering a spent bullet from there. If he thinks and does this so easily, then it seems that the audience will be considered as a fool. Even those who have read the book got bored till reading half the book. There was full scope for editing work in the web series, both on the writing table and also on the editing table. A big confusion also remained whether this would be a story of police investigation or of unearthing a conspiracy. By the way, the writers group has paid attention to many small things which were not so necessary for the story but were the work of the sharp eyes of the writers. The scene of Prateek Gandhi’s first meeting with Vineet Kumar is his true hallmark or the scene of Prateek and Richa’s canteen meeting.

In the acting, Jatin Goswami has played the role of Vicky Rai and has played in the best way. The future is bright. After every scene of his, he gets a little more hatred. Prateek Gandhi is on the path of being typecast. He will either have to stay away from playing the character of a consummate person or else he will have to get rid of the mysterious smile. Richa Chadha’s character is pointless. It also seems unnecessary to have a female police officer. Anyone else would have done this character and Richa has not added any newness to the character. The attack of Ashutosh Rana’s silent smile is fatal. He is in a good role. When his secretary gives him the phone and says that it is Suraj Yadav from CBI, he casually says “Bolo” on the phone. Home minister of a state and politician of many years is never afraid of CBI and Ashutosh Rana proves this just by saying.

Raghuveer Yadav has left no stone unturned in overacting and looks very bizarre while romancing Himanshi Chowdhary. Himanshi has started getting typecast. Sharib Hashmi’s dialogue delivery is the same, just the roles are different. In this, his character never grows properly. The remaining two to three dozen characters keep coming and going. Only two people move the pawns on the chessboard of politics, one Ashutosh Rana and the other his partner Vineet Kumar, the rest keep peeling the grass. Paoli Dam’s character takes a good entry, comes to the murder party, but then goes missing. There is also an American character Larry Page for laughs, don’t know what he will do in the story. Rucha Inamdar also comes, the suspicion of murder could have been raised on her too, but in the middle of the story, the character’s air got blown out. Seeing Mani in the role of Shashank Arora, Deepraj Rana and AKT, one can say that they will never commit murder, yet they appear many times in the story.

A great editor would have saved this web series, but alas Prathamesh Chande and Unnikrishnan Parameswaran probably could not charm to work with Tigmanshu and long characters were allowed to go on. Rishi Punjabi’s cinematography is also fine. It is very dark in some scenes. The murder scene could have become a landmark but it was settled in the last 10 seconds of the first episode and then directly appeared in the last 10 seconds of the episode. Several attempts were made to put a twist in the story, but it was revealed in the very next scene.

This web series has been produced by Ajay Devgan and is accompanied by Preeti Sinha, daughter of former Impa President Vinay Sinha. Soon this web series will be watched by crores of viewers and the figures will start coming and everyone will think that the series is a hit but after such a messed up story and episodes like tasteless chewing gum, this web series should be given a prize to those who watch it completely, especially those who Have read the book too. Out of six suspects, gun is recovered only near two, third’s gun falls there. In the end, the one who fired the bullet came to that party, how without invitation it is not considered necessary to cover its secret. You can understand this web series from this.
