Additional District Judge 16 Dr. Amit Verma has sentenced a retired soldier found guilty of culpable homicide in the case of death of cousin’s daughter-in-law in celebratory firing to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 5 lakh. An additional fine of Rs. 2000 has also been imposed for being found guilty under the Arms Act. Half of the fine amount will be given to the heirs of the deceased. The deceased was the wife of the stenographer of the District Judge in Fatehpur.

Ankit, a resident of Viratnagar, Ahirwan, was getting married to Priya on 8 February 2023 at Jai Prayag Marriage Lawn in Naugwan, Narwal. Ankit’s cousin Anand Dixit also came with his wife Rashmi, daughter Anushka and son Anshuman. During the reception, Anand’s uncle Ajay Kumar Dixit, who was a retired soldier, was doing celebratory firing. During this, a bullet from Ajay’s licensed gun hit Rashmi’s temple, due to which she died on the spot. Jiyalal, a resident of village Pohar, Narwal, the watchman of the marriage lawn, had lodged a report at the Narwal police station. ADGC Dharmendra Pal Singh said that ten witnesses including the watchman and the deceased’s husband Anand Dixit and daughter Anushka were presented in the court on behalf of the prosecution. On the basis of evidence and witnesses, the court convicted Ajay Kumar Dixit of unintentional murder and sentenced him.
