Rukmini Ashtami 2024: According to the Panchang, the Ashtami date of Krishna Paksha of Paush month is known as Rukmini Ashtami. On this day in Dwapar Yuga, Goddess Rukmini, wife of Shri Krishna, was born. Goddess Rukmini was the chief consort of Lord Krishna.

Rukmini Ashtami Puja Vidhi
- On this day, wake up early in the morning and take bath and install the picture of Shri Krishna and Mother Rukmini at the place of worship at the auspicious time.
- Abhishekam to Shri Krishna and Rukmini with Dakshinavarti conch. For this, milk mixed with saffron should be used. Worship with Panchopachar method.
- Offer red clothes, perfume, turmeric and kumkum to Goddess Rukmini.
- Make Panchamrit by mixing milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar candy together. Fill it in a pure vessel and offer it to the Gods and Goddesses. Keep in mind that Shri Krishna should not be offered without Tulsi.
- While worshiping, keep chanting Krim Krishnaya Namah mantra or the mantras of Goddess Lakshmi.
- Finally, light a lamp of cow ghee and perform Aarti with camphor. And then feed the Brahmin. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi is pleased with this method of worship.
- On this day, it is auspicious to gift wedding items to married women. This gives the blessing of increase in wealth and good fortune.
Rukmini told the importance of love for Shri Krishna
According to Srimad Bhagwat, once Lord Krishna’s third wife Satyabhama suspected that he loved Rukmini more. To become the beloved of Shri Krishna, Satyabhama organized a yagya. At the end of the Yagya, Narad ji asked for Shri Krishna as Dakshina, but Satyabhama refused to do so. Then Naradji said that if Shri Krishna cannot give, then donate gold equal to the weight of Kanha.
Satyabhama was full of ego, she weighed all her gold, even all the gold in the palace, equal to that of Shri Krishna, but Kanha had the upper hand. Then Satyabhama asked Rukmini for help. Goddess Rukmini lovingly placed a basil leaf on the other side of the scale and thus the weighing donation was completed. Goddess Rukmini explained to Satyabhama that love is done with a true heart and not with arrogance.
