India Will Get More S-400 Missile System: India’s strategic power is expected to increase further by next year. By next year, the remaining two regiments of Russia’s surface-to-air missile system S-400 Triumph will reach India. There has been some delay in its supply in view of the war in Ukraine. Official sources gave this information on Tuesday (April 23).
According to PTI report, Russia has already supplied three units of this long-range missile system to India under a deal worth $5.5 billion. Sources said that India is also expected to get the warship Tushil by September. Russia has also made this. He said that the second warship Tamal will also be supplied by January.
S-400 was to be supplied only in 2024
Officials have said that as per the previously fixed deadline, the ships were to be supplied by 2022. Whereas the supply of S-400 was to be completed by 2024. There was some delay in the supply of S-400 missiles due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. A new deadline has been set for supply.
Russia is supplying stealth frigates under the four frigate deal signed in 2018. The remaining two ships are being built in India. According to the conditions set in earlier agreements, the supply of S-400 missile system will be completed by next year.
America has warned of sanctions
To deal with the security challenges arising from China, India is purchasing missile systems to increase its air power capability. India had signed a $5.5 billion deal with Russia in October 2018 to buy five units of the S-400 air defense system. However, the US had warned that sanctions under CAATSA could be imposed if the contract goes ahead.
CAASA is a form of punitive action against any country engaged in dealings with Russian defense and intelligence sectors. Russia began supplying the first regiment of the missile system in December 2021 and it has been deployed in India’s northern sector to cover the border with China and Pakistan.
