Russia Ukraine War Russian Emergencies Ministry Says 14 People Killed In Ukrainian Attack On Belgorod Russia


Russia-Ukraine War: Amid the Russia-Ukraine attack, the Russian Emergency Ministry has claimed that at least 14 people, including 2 children, have died and 108 have been injured after the Ukrainian attack on the center of the provincial capital Belgorod.

Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Saturday (December 30) that a residential area was targeted in the attack in Belgorod, about 30 km (19 miles) from the Ukrainian border. In a Telegram post, he urged all people to go to air raid shelters as soon as the sirens sounded.

According to Al Jazeera, the Belgorod border shares with Luhansk, Sumy and Kharkiv regions of Ukraine. Many of these areas suffered huge loss of life and property due to Russian air strikes on Ukraine on Friday (29 December), which was described as one of the deadliest attacks since the war began in February 2022. The death toll from the attacks has increased to 39.

Belgorod is an important base for the Kremlin’s armed forces

Belgorod is about 600 km (373 mi) from the Russian capital, Moscow, and has been a front-line area. The region serves as an important base for the Kremlin’s armed forces to launch attacks on Ukraine.

’13 Ukrainian rockets destroyed in Belgorod region’

Russia’s Defense Ministry said in a statement that the attack “will not go unpunished.” The ministry said that its anti-aircraft units had destroyed 13 Ukrainian rockets in the Belgorod region on Friday (29 December).

‘Russian army shot down 32 Ukrainian drones’

Moscow officials said earlier on Saturday that Russian forces had shot down 32 Ukrainian drones across the country. The ministry said in a statement that drones were seen in the sky over Moscow, Bryansk, Oryol and Kursk regions. It said that air security forces destroyed all the drones.

Russia requested to call a meeting of the UN Security Council

Not only this, now Russia has also requested to call a meeting of the United Nations Security Council to discuss the deadly attack on Saturday. “We have requested a Security Council meeting in Belgorod on December 30 at 15:00 New York time (2000 GMT),” said Dmitry Polyansky, Moscow’s deputy permanent representative to the UN.
