Thieves keep an eye on deserted houses during festivals in Saharsa. When people lock their homes and go out for puja or holidays, thieves take advantage of it. The latest case is of Shakuntala Nagar Ward-20 of Sadar police station area of ââSaharsa. Where thieves targeted the house of retired professor Anand Nath Jha and stole valuables including gold and silver jewelery worth Rs 2.5 lakh, Rs 50 thousand in cash.
According to the information, the incident took place on Thursday night at around 11 pm. When the people of the locality saw two unknown youths coming out of the ventilator of Professor Jhaâs house. The people of the locality immediately caught hold of both of them, shouting âthief-thiefâ and beat them severely. After this, the police were informed and both the thieves were handed over to them.
Retired Professor Anand Nath Jha told that his ancestral village is in Mangroni in Madhubani district. The entire family had closed the house on Tuesday morning and gone to the village for Durga Puja. On Thursday night, the people of the locality called him and informed him that there had been a theft in his house. When he reached his home in Saharsa around 3 am on Friday morning, he found the latches of all the doors of the house broken and the rooms inside badly scattered. Jewelery worth Rs 2.5 to Rs 3 lakh, cash worth Rs 50 thousand and other valuables were missing from the house. He expressed apprehension that the other accomplices had already run away with the stolen goods, while the two arrested thieves were trying to escape.
Sadar police station incharge Subodh Kumar confirmed the incident and said that both the arrested thieves have been sent to Sadar hospital for treatment. A complaint of theft has been lodged by the landlord. The matter is being investigated.
