Rakesh Kumar Roshan, husband of block chief Sarita Sangam of Saharsa’s Salkhua block, was arrested by the police on Wednesday in a case of assault from Uteshara village. This arrest has taken place in connection with the incident in which the block chief’s husband is accused of assaulting Panchayat Raj Secretary (PRS) Niranjan Kumar and demanding extortion.

According to the information, on May 31, 2024, PRS Niranjan Kumar had lodged a complaint at Salkhua police station. In it she had alleged that on May 29, her husband Rakesh Roshan called her at home. Called again on 30th May and asked to come. After this the chief’s brother-in-law also started calling and threatening him. When PRS came to meet Rakesh Roshan, Rakesh demanded extortion money of Rs 50 thousand from him. When Niranjan Kumar expressed his inability, Rakesh abused and beat him. PRS suffered serious injuries, following which he was admitted to Salkhua PHC and later referred to Saharsa Sadar Hospital.

The victim had named five people including the block chief in this case. Considering the seriousness of the matter, case number 134/24 was registered in Salkhua police station. Since then the police was busy searching for the accused Rakesh Roshan. According to the police, a case was registered in this matter under section 307 (attempt to murder) and other serious sections.

Police Station Head Vishal Kumar said that the police received secret information that Rakesh Roshan was present in Uteshara village. After this, SI Dhananjay Kumar and the police force took immediate action and arrested Rakesh Roshan. After his arrest, he has been sent to judicial custody.
