saira banu latest post claimed madhubala was interested in dilip kumar shared 64 years old memory

Post: Veteran actress Saira Banu often shares old stories while posting on Instagram. Many times she is seen opening the pages of the past which people of today are unaware of. Recently, Saira Banu has written a long note and told a 64-year-old story and claimed that late actress Madhubala was interested in her late husband and actor Dilip Kumar.

Saira Banu has shared an old photo of herself and a poster of the film ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ on Instagram. With this, she wrote- ‘After this I persuaded my mother to get out of her western blouses and skirts and hand over to me the heaviest gota saree that she had.’

Saira Bano wore a saree weighing one ton
Saira says- ‘The effect of the costume on me was to scream as I weighed barely a paper weight kilo and the saree weighed a ton. But do you think I will give up? I wore it with the help of my mother and I bravely faced the storm of swaying while I walked along with the heavy fabric.’

Madhubala was interested in Dilip Kumar!
Saira also talked about the beauties of that era having a crush on Dilip Kumar and her marriage to Dilip. She wrote- ‘I had built castles in the air for many years and knew all the mesmerizing beautiful women like the enchanting beauty Madhubala and many others who were interested in Sahib, but do you think anything could stop me from my dream of becoming Mrs. Dilip Kumar?’

Saira Banu remembered the years old story
Saira then wrote- ‘Finally the premiere took place on August 5, 1960 at Maratha Mandir, where the entire film industry was gathered and my eyes were frantically searching from one face to another, but there was no glimpse of Saheb. The moment when I used to exchange glances with him, was wasted and I felt a cold water spring!’

Dilip Kumar had an argument with the director of Mughal-e-Azam
The veteran actress further says- ‘Later I came to know that the great camaraderie and friendship between Saheb and his very close friend Mughal-e-Azam director K. Asif had soured because Asif Saheb had surprised Saheb and his family by marrying secretly. His younger sister Akhtar told Dilip Saheb without saying a single word. To say the least I was sitting in my seat with my mother and if I watched any one scene with interest or heart, you could make me happy. This was a big failure for me.’

When did Dilip Kumar see Mughal-e-Azam for the first time?
Saira Banu further says that because of her, Dilip Kumar never watched Mughal-e-Azam. However, when Saira got married to Dilip Kumar, she came to know that in an institute in Pune, ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ is taught like a chapter of a drama. Then Saira persuaded Dilip Kumar to watch ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ for the first time.
