David Dhawan used to cast his favorite star Govinda in almost all the films of that period. David Dhawan also signed Govinda in the film Judwaa and the film started. Govinda became the first choice of ‘Judwaa’
The film Judwaa was released on 7 February 1997. According to reports, the budget of the film was around Rs 7 crores while the film earned around Rs 25 crores at the box office. Govanda was signed in this film directed by David Dhawan. According to a report in Bollywood Hungama, Govinda had mentioned this in an interview. Govinda had told that David Dhawan had chosen him for the film Judwaa but at that time he had many films and along with the shooting of ‘Judwaa’, he was shooting another film.
Govinda said, ‘At that time I had the film Banarasi Babu for which I was shooting with ‘Judwaa’. Some scenes had already been shot but one night I got a call from Salman Bhai. He told me that he does not have any special work right now. So can I give him a film because he liked the story of Judwaa? Govinda further said, ‘I immediately said yes to my brother and met David the next day. Salman Bhai and I went to him and David signed Salman. In the 90’s, Salman Khan had some hits but many flop films, but after Judwaa, he got offers for many films because Judwaa was a superhit.
Salman Khan had a double role in the film Judwaa, opposite him were Karisma Kapoor and Rambha actresses. After 2000’s, Govinda’s films also started flopping, then Salman Khan took him as his film partner and that film became a superhit. Salman and Govinda are good friends and whenever they are seen together, they are called best partners. Govinda has done superhit films with David Dhawan like Coolie No. 1, Hero No. 1, Saajan Chale Sasural, Raja Babu, Haseena Maan Jayegi.
