Every day, there is a queue of people here before this shop opens.
This iconic ice cream is served in the form of a thick slab between wafer biscuits. It is also wrapped in a thin butter paper. You will not find this unique way of serving ice cream anywhere in India, let alone Mumbai, except at K. Rustom shop. This is the reason why it is called ice cream sandwich. Its most popular flavors Walnut Crunch and Kesar Pista also have walnuts, caramelized sugar and pistachio pieces added to them.
This is how sandwich ice cream started
It is said that the shop started in 1953 when K. Rustam and his family sold ice cream on beautiful glass and porcelain plates to tourists and families at Marine Drive. But, after many years, the plates started disappearing. These plates were so beautiful in appearance that many people would take them away. After that, the ice cream started being served by putting it between two thin biscuits and wrapping it in paper. Now this shop is known for its ice cream biscuits (ice cream sandwiches).
