The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.

The Santrampur assembly seat in Dahod district is one of the most discussed seats in the state in Gujarat elections. The BJP had fielded sitting MLA Kuberbhai Dindor for this election. Dindor defeated Gendalbhai Damor of INC by 15,577 votes. Independent Babubhai Damor, who got 28,631 votes, came third after BJP and Congress. Whereas, AAP’s candidate Parvatbhai Vagdia, who stood at number four, got 24,554 votes.

Looking at the political importance of this seat, it has been very special for the main opposition party of the state, Congress. Elections were held on this seat for the first time in 1962. In the 14 elections held so far, the Congress has won nine times while the BJP has won only three elections here.

The BJP had won this seat in the 2017 assembly elections. In this election, BJP candidate Kuberbhai Mansukhbhai Dindor defeated Gendalbhai Motibhai Damor of Congress by just 6,424 thousand votes. Five candidates were in the fray in this election, out of which the deposits of three candidates were forfeited.
Prior to 2017, this seat was won by the Congress in the 2012 elections. Gendalbhai Motibhai Damor, who contested from Congress, defeated BJP candidate Mansingh Mamat.

The sitting MLA got the ticket from BJP
The BJP had fielded sitting MLA Kuberbhai Mansukhbhai Dindor on this seat for the 2022 elections. Whereas, Congress had made Gendalbhai Motibhai Damor its candidate from here. Parvatbhai Akhmabhai Vagadiya was in the fray from the Aam Aadmi Party. Polling was held on this seat in the second phase on December 5. The results came on 8 December.
