He always remained engrossed in misdeeds and used to defame the Gods and Goddesses. One day the king got angry and expelled him from the kingdom. After this, Lumpak was living in the forest and earning his living by eating non-vegetarian food.
The sinner unknowingly completed the Saphala Ekadashi fast.
It is said that sometimes even unknowingly a living being becomes the object of God’s grace. Something similar happened with Lumpak also. Once due to severe cold he could not sleep at night. He shivered in the cold throughout the night due to which he became unconscious. That day was the tenth day of Krishna Paksha of Pausha month. When he regained consciousness the next day, he regretted his sins and collected some fruits from the forest and kept them near the Peepal tree and remembered Lord Vishnu. Even on this cold night he could not sleep, he remained awake and engaged in the worship of Shri Hari. In such a situation, he unknowingly completed the fast of Saphala Ekadashi.
