A large number of people participated in the Yamuna Parliament on Sunday morning to save the Yamuna river in the capital. During this, people made a 22 kilometer long human chain for the continuity and purity of Yamuna. Amid light rain, Yamuna lovers reached ITO, Geeta Colony, Old Usmanpur village, Nizamuddin Bridge and Ghats located at DND between Wazirabad and Kalindikunj.
Leaders of various political parties, representatives of socio-religious organizations, business organizations, transport associations, youth organizations also participated in the human chain. On this occasion, all together shouted to continue the Yamuna Parliament till the Yamuna becomes clean and took a pledge to create public pressure on the government to ensure the uninterrupted flow of the river and to take five steps for the betterment of Yamuna’s health.
Yamuna Sansad was organized on Sunday morning as the third chapter of Lok Sansad, a unique initiative of Mata Lalita Devi Sevashram to establish public dialogue. In the human chain, Delhi government ministers Gopal Rai and Saurabh Bhardwaj, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Rambir Singh Bidhuri, state BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, Delhi Jal Board vice-chairman Somnath Bharti, Rotary Bank founder Rajkumar Bhatia, former IIT student council president Ravi Sharma, coordinator of Jal Jan Jodo Abhiyan Sanjay Singh, santoor player Abhay Rustum Sopori, Anupam of Yuva Halla Bol, social workers Ajit Singh, Arun Singh, Sachin Gupta, Thansingh Yadav etc. also participated.
Many civilizations developed on the banks of rivers: Govindacharya
Patron of Yamuna Parliament, KN Govindacharya said that great civilizations developed on the banks of rivers all over the world, but not all cities respected the rivers flowing on their doorstep. The condition of Delhi is even worse. On the other hand, Yamuna Sansad convenor Ravi Shankar Tiwari said that due to his program the government had released extra water on Saturday. For this reason Yamuna appeared pollution free during his event. The Yamuna Parliament is ready to hold dialogue with the government to maintain this picture of Yamuna permanently.
Tremendous enthusiasm shown in the people
There was tremendous enthusiasm among the residents of the capital to form a human chain on the banks of the Yamuna. The program was to begin at 6:30 in the morning, but people had started arriving on the banks of the Yamuna much earlier. During this enthusiasm was visible on the face of every Yamuna lover. All India Vishwa Gayatri Parivar, Nirankari Samaj, Namdhari Samaj, Ishwariya Brahmakumari Prajapati, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, ISKCON, Imam of Fatehpuri Masjid, Delhi Medical Association, Transport Association, All Colleges of Delhi University, Action Committee of Recognize Private Schools participated in the program. Children, youth, women and men reached under the banner of more than 1,800 religious organizations and social, voluntary, business organizations including business organizations of Delhi, Swabhiman Desh, Delhi Panchayat Sangh, Sadar Bazar and Chandni Chowk.
