How to spot fake websites?

  • Scammers have created clones of original websites that look exactly like the original website. However, by spotting these fake websites, you can save yourself from falling prey to scams.
  • Check domain name. Fraudsters can slightly change the URL name or change the domain extension. For example, they can change amazon.com to amaz0n.com or amazon.org.
  • When you visit a website, look for the padlock to the left of the URL in the address bar. This padlock indicates that the site is protected by a TLS/SSL certificate, which encrypts data sent between users and the website. If the website is not secure, an exclamation mark ( ! ) will appear to the left of the domain name in the address bar.
  • Fake websites can have spelling, grammar, and design issues. Take care of such things.
