SCO Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the SCO Summit through video conferencing. During this, Foreign Minister Dr. S Jaishankar was present at the summit. Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif also participated in the program.
Foreign Minister Dr. S Jaishankar, while narrating PM Modi’s message, said that naturally, priority should be given to combating terrorism. He said that if it is left unchecked, it can become a big threat to regional and global peace.
SCO has an important place in India’s foreign policy
Dr. S Jaishankar, while reading out PM Modi’s message at the summit, further said that India remembers with appreciation that its entry as a member of the SCO took place during the 2017 Kazakh chairmanship. Since then, we have completed a full cycle of chairmanship in the SCO. In fact, India hosted the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government in 2020 as well as the meeting of the Council of Heads of State in 2023. He said that the SCO occupies a prominent place in our foreign policy.
PM Modi expressed condolences on the death of President Raisi
Apart from this, in his address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Iran for joining the organization as a member. He also expressed his deep condolences on the tragic death of President Raisi and others in the helicopter crash.
Belarus welcome to join SCO: PM Modi
Apart from this, Prime Minister Modi also congratulated President Lukashenko in his message and said that I welcome Belarus as a new member of the organization. During this, PM Modi said that we have gathered today due to the impact of the pandemic, ongoing conflicts, increasing tensions, lack of trust and increasing number of hotspots around the world.
PM Modi further said that these events have put significant pressure on international relations and global economic growth. They have further aggravated some of the problems arising from globalization. In such a situation, the purpose of our gathering is to find common ground to mitigate the consequences of these developments.
Strong connectivity is needed for economic development
PM Modi further said that strong connectivity is needed for economic development. This can also open the way for cooperation and trust between our societies. Respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity is necessary for connectivity and infrastructure projects. PM Modi said that SCO needs to seriously discuss these aspects.
PM Modi congratulated China for the next chairmanship of SCO
