Semiconductor Plant: The Government of India informed in the Parliament House on Wednesday, 7 February 2024, that it has received 4 proposals for semiconductor manufacturing unit plants and 13 proposals for chip assembly units.

According to a PTI report, four global semiconductor companies are in talks with the Center to set up fabs in India. Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajiv Chandrashekhar said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha that these proposals are in addition to the Rs 22,516 crore chip assembly plant being set up by American memory chip maker Micron.
The minister said that four proposals have been received for setting up semiconductor fabs and an additional 13 proposals have been received for setting up compound semiconductor fabs and ATMPS (Assembly, Testing Marking and Packaging) facilities.
Approval of Rs 76,000 crore
Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrashekhar informed the Parliament and the country during the Lok Sabha session that the government has approved Semicon India program with a total outlay of Rs 76,000 crore for the development of semiconductor and display manufacturing ecosystem in the country. Apart from this, the minister said that the objective of this government program is to provide financial assistance to companies investing in semiconductor, display manufacturing and design ecosystem.
