The court has acquitted seven accused in the 2020 communal riots case in East Delhi. The court said that the prosecution has failed to prove the crime beyond reasonable doubt. There is no permanent and persuasive evidence against them. A case was registered at Dayalpur police station against Shakeel, Habib Raza, Mohammad Yameen, Usman, Shahid, Furkan and Irshad, who were acquitted.

Additional Sessions Judge Pulastya Pramachala passed the order while hearing the case against seven people accused of being part of an unlawful assembly that burnt two shops, an autorickshaw and a two-wheeler on the main Brijpuri Road in Karawal Nagar on February 24, 20. The court, in the order passed on Wednesday, said the evidence on record failed to point with the help of any inductive evidence to show any of the accused persons being part of the crowd of rioters.

The court, while acquitting all the accused, said that the evidence on record also failed to establish the identity of the mob which was actually behind the three incidents investigated in the case. None of the complainants identified any of the alleged rioters. Four of the seven were arrested by an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) on a tip-off.
