According to the Islamic calendar, Pir (Monday) will be the beginning of Shaban month on 12th February and Shab-e-Baraat will be celebrated on 25th February i.e. the night between 14th and 15th of Shaban month. However, the exact date of Shab-e-Baraat is decided only after the sighting of the moon of Shaban.

How do people of Muslim community celebrate Shab-e-Baraat?

Shab-e-Baraat is the night of repentance from sins. On this day, Muslims keep fast and offer namaz after Fajr Azaan. After sunset, people go to the graves of their ancestors, burn incense sticks, offer flowers and ask for forgiveness from Allah for their sins. People also donate as per their capacity. Sweet dishes are also prepared at home.

At night everyone gathers and offers Namaz and by reciting the Quran-e-Pak the whole night, people ask for forgiveness from Allah Almighty and promise not to do any wrong thing. Muslim men go to the mosque to offer namaz and recite the Quran. Whereas women complete this custom at home only.
