Shabaash Mithu Movie Review: Know how is this story of Mithali Raj making her place in ‘Gentlemen’s Game’…

Movie Review Shabaash Mithu in Hindi: Cricket is the one, which has got the status of the most popular sport in this country. The story of playing cricket in the street with a thapi or bat in hand is included in almost everyone’s memories. But in this country which gives the status of God to cricketers, when girls come out to play this game, then what is their life, how much struggle they have to make to make their identity. This is the important thing which has been told through the biopic of Mithali Raj, the captain of the Indian women’s cricket team. The trailer of this film had already told that this story is going to show you something which was not shown before in cricket films.

Story: Shabaash Mithu is the story of Indian women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj, who was born in Hyderabad in a Tamil family. While learning Bharatnatyam, due to a friend, Mithali’s attitude towards cricket was such that her friends started calling her Sachin. There was no problem from the family side in choosing cricket for Mithali, but Mithali’s story shows every aspect from reaching the cricket academy and setting herself among female cricketers to providing facilities to the women’s cricket team.

There is a scene in this film – the women’s cricket team is going to England for their match, but they are removed from the line at the airport and asked to reduce the weight of their luggage. All the players are sitting down at the airport taking out the essentials from their luggage, when people shout ‘India India…’ because the players of the men’s cricket team are passing by. This single scene is enough to show the difference between the two players of the super popular game. In this film, you will find many such scenes, seeing which you will clearly see this problem.

Taapsee Pannu has appeared in the role of Mithali in this biopic of Mithali Raj. Taapsee has been effective in her character. In this story of director Sreejit Mukherjee, Taapsee has not become a hero anywhere, the hero has always been her bat, while Taapsee herself is just smiling softly and quietly is surprising people in her own style. The child artist who plays Mithali’s childhood has also done a great job.

All the important things that should be there in a sports drama are there in this film. Although I found this film a bit slow. Some of the accompanying sequences were such that they were dragged a lot. But Srijit Mukherjee tells his story with a similar pause. The second thing that struck me about the sequencing was that the part of the cricket shown in the end while showing the sequence of the World Cup seemed like an overdose. Editing was needed here. Well done Mithu 3 stars from my side.
