Pakistan New Prime Minister: Nawaz Sharif has officially nominated younger brother Shahbaz for the post of PM. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) parliamentary party on Wednesday (February 28) also nominated senior leader Sardar Ayaz Sadiq for the post of Speaker of the National Assembly. This development has come a day before the inaugural session of the new National Assembly.

According to the information, after the general elections held on February 8, the first meeting of the new National Assembly will be held on Thursday (February 29). PML-N Central Deputy Secretary Ataullah Tarar said in a statement after the meeting that a meeting of PML-N parliamentary members was held in Islamabad on Wednesday under the chairmanship of party supremo Nawaz Sharif.

Ayaz Sadiq nominated for Speaker of the Assembly
Tarar said Nawaz has officially nominated his younger brother Shehbaz Sharif and party loyalist Ayaz Sadiq for the posts of prime minister and speaker of the National Assembly respectively. He said that the parliamentary party has supported the name of 72-year-old Shehbaz Sharif for the post of Prime Minister.

National Assembly session on Thursday
The PML also expressed full confidence in the leadership of three-time former Prime Minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif. It is noteworthy that after the refusal of President Dr. Arif Alvi, outgoing National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf has called a session of the National Assembly on Thursday.

PTI-SIC merger
Earlier, President Dr. Arif Alvi had refused to call the assembly session. He was of the view that the Parliament has not been completed as the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has not yet clarified its position on the allocation of reserved seats to Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) after the merger of PTI-SIC.
