Burhanpur. Burhanpur, which is called the door of Dakhan, preserves many historical buildings of the Mughal period and their history. Along with this, there are some untouched historical aspects of the city of Burhanpur, which have faded in the pages of history and in which the history of Taj Mahal is also hidden.

The whole world knows the Taj Mahal, the symbol of the love of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and his wife Mumtaz Mahal, but the history of this Taj Mahal started from Burhanpur when Shah Jahan’s beloved wife Mumtaz Begum breathed her last while giving birth to her fourteenth child. It was taken in the palace of the royal fort built on the banks of the Tapti river in the city. In the last moment, Mumtaz Begum had taken a promise from her husband Shah Jahan to build a grand mausoleum in the memory of her unmatched love.

That’s why it was decided to build the Taj Mahal on the banks of the Yamuna in Agra.

The fulfillment of this promise was started from Ahukhana on the eastern bank of Tapti river, for which Begum Mumtaz’s body was mummified and buried there in Payndabad of Ahukhana area. The last prayer of Begum Mumtaz, who was buried for about 6 months, could not be fulfilled in Burhanpur city. Due to climate, soil and geographical condition of this area not being able to preserve a grand and beautiful building like Taj Mahal for a long time, Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan decided to build Taj Mahal on the Yamuna bank of Agra.

Mumtaz’s body buried in Ahukhana area after 6 months was taken to Agra

After which the dead body of Begum Mumtaz, who was buried in Ahukhana area for 6 months, was taken to Agra and there Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan got the Taj Mahal built in the memory of his Begum Mumtaz. Even today Mumtaz Mahal is buried in the grand mausoleum of the Taj Mahal. But Begum Mumtaz Mahal’s wish was to build Taj Mahal in Burhanpur, it could not be fulfilled. Even today the residents of the city are worried about not being able to build the Taj Mahal in the city of Burhanpur. Tourists coming from India and abroad remember the Mughal era by visiting Aahkhane.
