Shaktikanta Das Principal Secretary: Former Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das has got a big responsibility in the Modi government. On 22 February, he has been made Secretary-2 on behalf of the government. Shaktikanta Das will work with Secretary-1 Das PK Mishra in the Modi government. This responsibility has been given to him by the appointment committee of the cabinet. His tenure will remain till the tenure of Prime Minister Modi. Das is a retired IAS officer of 1980 batch, he played an important role in demonetisation and GST. Shaktikanta Das as the 25th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India was from the year 2018 to 2024.

What is process
Any IAS officer needs a long experience and many promotions to become principal secretary. As an advisor to the Prime Minister, he has an important contribution in giving a new direction to the country. An IAS officer starts on the junior scale, then after doing 4 years or more work, he gets promotion, then that senior scale again gets the post of selection grade, Additional Chief Secretary, Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary. If stated in simple words, any IAS officer is made the principal secretary after at least 30 to 35 or more years of service and many promotions.
Who makes appointment
A senior IAS officer is selected as the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister and the Prime Minister is appointed. Their main task is to give policy -making, administrative work and important government affairs to the Prime Minister and see him, along with this, he advises PM on national and international level issues. The Principal Secretary also has the work of operating the Prime Minister’s Office. His post is equal to the post of Cabinet Minister and the salary of Principal Secretary is around 2 lakh 50 thousand rupees.
