Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand of Jyotishpeeth in Gorakhpur, while giving a dialogue on cow protection and religion at the Chitra Mandir of Geeta Press on Tuesday, said that the voice of cow protection should be raised from Gorakhpur. Cow is included in the name of Gorakhpur itself. If cow protection work is not done from here, the name of Gorakhpur should be changed, because names which are not useful are also being changed.

Shankaracharya said that in the Gorakhnath temple he prayed to Baba Gorakhnath for the protection of cows. In Dwapar Yuga, Lord Shri Krishna protected cows and nature by lifting Govardhan Mountain. We traveled on foot from Mathura, the city of Lord Krishna, for cow protection and after reaching Delhi, we paid obeisance to the cow devotees who sacrificed their lives by being shot during the cow protection movement in 1986. He also prayed to God for cow protection and is appealing to Hindus to stand up for it.

Shankaracharya said that 75 years ago there were 30 crore humans and 78 crore cows in the country. Now the population has reached 150 crore but there are only 17 crore cows. If the way cow slaughter is going on is not stopped, then after five years we will have to see cows in pictures. Such is the situation when even Shankar Varna is being considered as cow. Advocates Manish Pandey, Divyendu Nath, Mukesh Pandey etc. were present on this occasion.
