Shashikala was born on 4 August 1932 in Solapur, Maharashtra. Her full name was Shashikala Jawalkar. The actress’ childhood was spent in great comfort. Because her father Anantrao Jawalkar was a wealthy businessman. He had a clothing business. But later the situation of her house changed. Because father’s business had come to a standstill. 

Sasikala’s father had become bankrupt

There came a time when Sasikala’s father had to face financial crisis. He had even become bankrupt. The actress had told in one of her interviews that, her brother used to study in London. Her father used to send all the money to her brother. Because of this, they had to face financial crisis. It is said that when Sasikala’s brother got a job, he forgot his father’s favor.

It is true that Shashikala’s childhood was spent in luxury. But she had to struggle a lot in her childhood. After her father’s business closed down, the actress was forced to sweep and mop people’s houses. During this time, she did not even get food for many days. But after meeting actress Noor Jahan, her life took a turn.

Worked as a child artist in ‘Zeenat’

Shashikala was given a small role in the film ‘Zeenat’ released in 1945 on the recommendation of Noor Jahan. The actress was then paid Rs 25 for working in this film. After this, she worked in many films in her career including ‘Aarzoo’, ‘Sarkar’, ‘Sabse Bada Rupaiya’, ‘Jugnu’, ‘Dolly’, ‘Bholi’ and ‘Raj Rani’. 

Died at the age of 88

Let us tell you that Shashikala is no longer in this world. She died on 4 April 2021 in Mumbai at the age of 88.
