Devraj got Shivlok just by listening to Shiv Purana.
In ancient times, there lived a Brahmin named Devraj in a city. He was very weak, poor, and alienated from Vedic religion. He did not do any religious work and was always busy in earning money. He used to cheat and betray everyone. He never used the money he earned for religious purposes.
One day while roaming, he reached Prayag and there he saw many saints and mahatmas who were staying in the Shivalaya. He also stayed in the Shivalaya. But he got fever. His body started getting hot due to fever and he started suffering from pain. A Brahmin was narrating the story of Shiva in the Shiva temple itself. Devraj, burning with fever, was also listening to the story of Shiva from the mouth of a Brahmin. But after a month his body became so sick due to fever that he died.
After his death, Yamraj’s messengers tied him in a noose and forcefully took him to Yamlok. Then Shiva’s councilors also reached Shivlok. He had a trident in his hand and his body was smeared with ashes. She was wearing big Rudraksha beads. Shiva’s councilors went to Yampuri in anger and threatened Yamraj’s messengers by beating them and freed Devraj from their clutches and took him from Yampuri to Mount Kailash.
After reaching Kailash, the councilors handed over Devraj to Lord Shiva. In this way, even the unrighteous Devraj attained Shivlok just by listening to Shiv Purana. Therefore it is said that, the person who listens to Shiva Purana or Shiva Katha, attains Shivlok.
