Sickle Cell Anemia: Sickle cell anemia is a very dangerous and genetic disease related to blood. But this disease attracted people’s attention when Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made big announcements regarding this disease while presenting the budget for the year 2023. The mission to eradicate this disease was started in the year 2023. Now its medicine Hydroxyurea oral suspension has been launched for the prevention of this disease.

Giving information about this medicine, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, has shared a post on social site X. While sharing the post, he wrote that many congratulations to you for manufacturing medicine for the prevention of sickle cell disease.

PM Narendra Modi had started the Sickle Cell Anemia Eradication Mission in the year 2023. This medicine will prove to be a boon especially for our tribal sisters, brothers and children and we will soon free India from sickle cell. The central government has set a target to eradicate this disease from India by the year 2047.

What is sickle cell anemia?

Most of the people suffering from this disease are tribals. 7 crore people will be screened there. The government is completely on alert mode regarding this disease. This is a genetic disorder. In this the blood cells either break or their shape and size start changing.

Due to which the blood gets blocked in the veins. It is also very dangerous because red blood cells gradually start dying in it. Then there is lack of blood in the body. Due to genetic disease, blood production in the body stops after some time. Due to lack of blood in the body, organs start getting damaged. Kidneys, heart, spleen, liver gradually stop working.

If a person has sickle cell anemia then no specific symptoms are visible on the body. The patient only has pain in his bones and muscles. There is swelling and pain in body parts. There may be mild pain or swelling in hands and feet. Blood production gradually stops. Many times it happens that due to lack of blood, blood transfusion has to be done.

Ignoring symptoms leads to death

Sickle cell anemia causes death, infection, pain, acute chest syndrome, stroke. A patient suffering from this disease may also die suddenly. According to the Family Health Survey, between 2015 and 2016, 58.4% children and 53% women were suffering from this disease. The number of patients of this disease has increased in the last 6 decades. Especially the tribal population is suffering more from this disease.
