Dr. Khanita Suvarnasudhi, an acupuncturist and chiropractor from Maryland, USA, has told about the problems that can arise when sleeping on the stomach.

In a video posted on Instagram, Suvarnasudhi explained that lying on the stomach puts undue pressure on the spine, as you naturally sink deeper into the torso. Apart from this, if you do not have a massage table, then you cannot really sleep properly like this. Massage table is a very good option to keep your spine stable. If you sleep on your stomach on your bed, then you keep twisting your neck all night. Due to this, your spine also has to turn many times. Due to excessive twisting, you may also complain of neck pain in future.

Dr. Joydeep Ghosh of Fortis Hospital, Kolkata explains that when we sleep on our stomach, most of our weight falls on the middle part of the body. When you are sleeping, sometimes it becomes difficult to keep the spine stable. According to the Indian Express report, Dr. Ghosh said that by giving stress on the spine, the stress on different systems of your body will increase. Dr. Ghosh also agreed that sleeping on the stomach creates obstruction in the position of the neck. This position rotates your neck and puts your head and spine out of alignment.

The effect will not be visible in the beginning

You will not see the bad results of belly sleeping in the beginning. But in the coming days, due to this, problems related to the neck may arise. Dr. Khanita says that if you have a habit of sleeping on your stomach, then you can use a hard mattress. Or you can put a pillow under your pelvis.
